Welcome to the Chelmsley TAGB Taekwondo website

The Chelmsley TAGB Club was established in 2004 by Sean Rodgers, an experienced Taekwondo practitioner currently ranked at 5th Dan Black Belt with the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain (TAGB). The club welcomes students of all ages and has classes for beginners, advanced students and black belts.

Taekwondo is the art of self-defence which originated in Korea. It is derived from the word “Tae” meaning foot, “Kwon” meaning fist, and “Do” meaning the way of. So literally Taekwondo means “the way of the foot and fist”. It is recognised as one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, reaching back more than 2000 years.

The emphasis on speed and agility is a defining characteristic of Taekwondo. However Taekwondo is much more than kicking and punching. It is designed as a complete non-violent discipline of body training and character building.

By practising Taekwondo students will benefit in a number of ways:

Physically

– improved co-ordination, muscle tone and flexibility, weight loss and cardiovascular conditioning.

Mentally

– increased confidence, self control and discipline, stress reduction and positive attitude.

Philosophically

– Taekwondo promotes honesty, courtesy, humility, respect, courage, generosity, loyalty and perseverance.
